Ratatouille is dead!

I am running in an allée, a beautiful green path, it is heavenly and the warm beams of sunlight gently caresses my skin... a loud siren goes off...is there police? Am I chased?
I am awake!!!
"Is this us", whispers Prince?
"Guess so, sounds like our Alarm system!!!", I mutter back.
Best security advice - I pull the blanket over my head. This will help!?
I am scared and so is Prince (I think). Too many bad people around, too many bad things happened lately. We hold each other like frightened children when the phone rings. "It is in the kitchen", the security people confirm.
It?? what is it, I wonder.
"Something is at the window", the security man says. I am shaking badly, but Prince - my hero, gets up and with a confident and mean look he marches out, to defend his Splotchypessa.
" What is it, Prince, are you ok?"
"All ok, no monsters in sight", he replies.
" The dogs, where are they?", I yell from undercover.
"Sleeping, I guess."
I steal myself out of my security duvet and follow Prince into the cold kitchen. No monsters, no bandits, just our shadows and us.
"Let's go back to bed'.
Sleepless long times later, too busy listening to every sound and squeak, we fall back into dreamland, but wake again very early.
It is 7.30 and we decide to take the dogs for a walk on the beach. Glorious idea. I am excited! Nothing like a sunrise walk with the 'kids' on the wild ocean sands... I pull on my new MANGO leather riding pants (for a dog walk pants are allowed), a simple cashmere turtleneck (it stinks of moldy cupboard!!!) and my ( college girl look) Prada duffle coat. (one of my successful bargains from the Tuscany Prada outlet)
It is early, but never too early to look elegant. And of course, I have to make up for my unwashed-undone face. And that musky smell!
House of problems, here we go again!
Prince needs longer, but I can hear him complaining and bellowing, something ants, something humidity, something this house is...,
So much for the first day at home.
I go outside and play a bit with Puppy. She is sooo cuuuute, and loves her new Christmas toy - a miniature lifesaver, that can also float. The idea is, to teach her swimming soon... Prince arrives looking red and annoyed and we are ready to hit the beach, when he stares at me in shock.
"What's wrong?"
Insecure me: "Is it my spots and splotches"?
Shaking his head he stares at my hands and only now I see that they are soaked in blood.
BLOOD???
Puppy, puppy are you ok?
Maybe she has lost another baby tooth? Poor little one...I run over to check her little mouth, when I see IT!!! There, under our majestic chestnut tree, is the reason for the bloody mess and IT is still alive.
It is a cute little rat, dragging itself away from the puppy monster, trying to save its little life. I am ready to cry or vomit. Or both.
Poor Ratatouille! Goshhhh, it is so cute and it is making the most heartbreaking sounds. I want to punish Puppy, save the rat, but this is nature and I am a mere out-stander.
"Prince, please do something", I shout hysterically. "The poor thing is in pain. It is in agony, we must release its soul. Please do something!!!"
Ver imagem em tamanho realPrince seems shock-frozen, unable to move. Men today are not what they used to be. I start pushing him towards the little cute rodent, trying to ignore the crying sounds, it's making. Awful. Bloody evil Puppy. Why can't she be like our other dog? Afraid of everything, even her own tail, she could not even harm a fly. So there we are, watching Ratatouille in horror, unable to do anything. "Maybe we could drive over it", Prince suggests.
"And who will clean the leftovers" , I ask even more horrified.
" Shit, bloody day. Why it always has to go so wrong...?" Prince is loosing it, I need to take over fast!
" It is ok...it is mother nature, it is totally normal. Puppy wanted to make us a morning present...you know..It is sweet of her!!!" I'm mumbling some nonsense, which may be true, but I don't believe it myself and Prince finally moves, gets a big piece of bark and starts pushing the little bugger onto it.
The squeaking sounds are getting louder and I wonder how anyone with a heart can go and shoot animals. I once heard, that deer (again deer are coming up) make sounds like crying children, when wounded. Heartless bastards (oh, and Bastardines too) those hunters! But I must confess, that I eat game with great pleasure and also love cooking it (only kitchen ready bought pieces)...
I am such a contradiction!

What seems like a FOREVER later...

Prince has managed to get the grey fur-ball on the bark and we are now carefully, like ballerinas, tiptoeing towards the river. Bang, there goes the little rat falling on the ground, probably trying to escape the free bark-ride to afterlife. Freaking out again, Prince again starts to panic and I am trying to soothe him. He must be the only man, who has a heart for rats! I find a broken branch and push it once again on to the bark, listening to the little voice of pain. Awful. We just feel awful, but now we must finish. Juggling slowly, Prince manages to keep the rat on the bark and gently he releases it on the riverbank. We pray and wish it good luck and a part of me is convinced, that it will be fine again, maybe it was only shocked by Puppy's teeth. Wishful thinking - it does work sometimes!
Ok...
Rat buried, bloodstained hands cleaned, shall we go to the beach?
The car-ride is rather gloomy, as if the shadow of death is with us. Prince is quiet and lost in thought, only Puppy is in good spirits.
We arrive at Praia Grande and we are absolutely alone, us, the dogs, the ferocious ocean and a fat flock of pooping seagulls. They must have been eating well, since the sand looks like a piece of modern art, juicy white plops in the most imaginative shapes.
I love it...
No!, not the bird droppings, but the sea...
The sound of the waves, strong and untamable, like a passionate love affair. The scent of the salt...ahhhh...The taste of freedom and adventure...
Oh ocean, what powerful, divine force...
It cleanses my soul. It rejuvenates. It inspires...It also calls, Anna...Anna... come and play with us...
Not today. Those waves are killers and even a walk too close to the salty shore, could sweep you in a sec...And than you are history, like the poor rat... guess, on the end, we all end the same...

The dogs are happy, jumping and playing and sniffing and doing whatever it is that dogs are doing.
Prince and I stroll hand in hand. No-one is talking, we don't need too.
...
Aren't words often a mere filler of insecurity?
How many words and sentences would have been better left unspoken?
The art of quiet is lost in our modern world. People talk, talk, talk and most of them wooooffff!
Maybe to confirm their own existence or maybe, people are afraid of the quiet?
A mute button for the world, I think that is another invention in urgent need. (wouldn't you love a MUTE button for certain people?)
Good morning new day. Good morning wild Atlantic. Good morning Sintra and good morning poor little family rat.

Back at home I get serious about finding a new rental home. As much we love our little valley nest, the problems by far outnumber the pleasures, and if that is the case, I think it is best to move on. Just like in a relationship.

I find a few interesting things, sadly none in our preferred neighborhood. One farmhouse by the sea sounds promising and the owner gets back to me right away. We can come anytime today he says and so we take a rainy afternoon drive up north. Prince checked the way on google-map, (I am against GPS and will hold on to the fashion of maps till the very last moment! GPS, anther useful toy to shrink our brain...) but we get lost anyhow. Luckily there are a few people out, even though it's pouring and so we do arrive eventually after many guiding words and hands. The owner comes running out with 3 umbrellas and takes us for the grand garden tour. Manicured and elegant, it is not exactly what I call a farm. He smiles, "No-no - it used to be a farm. This is where I spend my childhood, and here were the horses."
Ohhh...horses?
"Now this is the guesthouse, but it used to be the stables."
Kept in a rustic and earthy chic, the guesthouse is utterly charming.
"And here were the animals, like chickens and geese."
"Ohhhhh" I am of course taken.
"But where are the animals now", I want to know.
"Oh...those English agencies we rent to, don't think animals are a good idea. Bugs and germs and stuff like that... They are afraid to catch something."
Weird people, and I thought the English love animals? Countryside? Must be the past generation, than?
The main house, with an adjoining chuch(!) has been renovated with a huge amount of TLC. Every little detail has been restored with great care and it is just a lovely Quinta. But it is not for us. It would seem empty without the sound of a big family. The 2 of us here, would feel lonely and isolated.
It is always hard for me to tell someone, NO, but Prince has no problem with this 2-letter word, as he has a gift to always wrap it with chocolate and honey... Even a complaint from Prince is delivered in such refined sweet packaging, that no-one would ever be offended by him.

The gift of complaint. The art of saying NO. If all other fails, we still could open a school?
Leaving the Quinta we confirm that our neighborhood is by far the most charming.
Sintra. St. Pedro. Colares. Galamares.
THE BEST!

Prince has to leave for a business dinner and I crawl into bed with Penelope Green's: "See Naples and die". An amusing diary of an Australian's dream to live 'La dolce vita'
Fascinating, captivating, honest and funny, it is certainly a great page-turner.
Amazon, and this nighttime story is just 3 clicks away from your bedside table. (she has a sequel of 3, all most funny and entertaining bed and beach companions)
Bookcover for 'Girl By Sea: Life, Love And Food On An Italian Island'Bookcover for 'See Naples And Die'   Bookcover for 'When In Rome: Chasing La Dolce Vita'
buona notte

xxxxx

Prince is back in no time and so I leave the comfort of our cozy bed and we finally make our CHRISTMAS. Red wine, xmas-music (poor Prince, it is the last, I promise) and gift-opening. This year, with all the mess and stress, I have not done my usual magic. No knitted, no painted, no homemade anything, not even my card has been finished.
But the thought counts, no???
And the love.
MERRY XMAS PRINCE.
You are my gift and I love you

PS: I end up with a big basket full of naughty undies. Red and pink and baby blue, I am ready for rainbow-colored dress-up-games...

By by Paradise, by by DODO

Last day, sunny day.
Forecast Mauritius: SUN SUN SUN.
Thanks!

I can here the meowing of OUR cat, waiting for her morning milk. I wonder who will feed the little cutie, when we are gone. The same goes for our feathery friends, always waiting for some leftovers.

The day is picture-perfect, the sea glittering in the brightest turquoises and greens, the sun bright and proud in a crisp blue sky, the birds singing a last sweet lullaby...as if Mauritius wants to give us the very best for our final moments.
Buhhhhhhhuhuuuuuuuu... I don't want to go home...

"Let's go for our last breakfast in Paradise", Prince pushes.
We meet our favorite English couple, looking as blue as us, since they also have to leave today. But at least they always knew the right day of departure.
They take some pictures of us, merci, since we usually only have either of us in a shot.
I finally go and visit the bird-opera-banyan-magic wish tree and make my offering, and yes, my wish...
Please little (big) tree...please make it true.

There must be some explanation for the way things feel, taste and smell in a final moment.
Because, today, on our last day, the colors seem brighter, the fruit taste sweeter and every little movement is intensified. It is like a dream.
And dreaming away, we enjoy it, doing sweet hot nothing for a few more hours under our straw umbrella.
Today, not even the ugly tankers, that frame the Oberoi view, are bothering us. Today is the fairy-tale, nothing can be wrong kind of day, that is also known as HOLIDAY.
Snufffffff... only now and then reality flies by, reminding us, that time is running slowly out...
Time to take our last lunch, a nice salt-baked fish, delicious, yet, nothing compared to the fish we eat in Portugal. The Mango Mojitos, however, are unbeatable.

We try to lure Shawn to join us back home and he does not seem to mind. Maybe next time we will take you with us?! He lights up at this idea. I wonder if he even knows what Paradise he can call his home.

So there we are, in our taxi, waving good by to the place, that was our nest for the last 12 days.
The English couple (their plane is delayed, because of fog in Delhi, lucky them...)  even came to wave us off and so we are touched and tearing.
It was lovely!
Snufffffffftis...
Oberoi, great job!
The service and the professionalism was beyond. We felt like royalty and will recommend this place any time. And we will be back!

Au revoir

Mauritius passes by my window, like a dream fast forward or fast rewind. My heart is filled with a heavy gloom. We had a wonderful time.

At the airport:
We still have a pocket full of Rupees, so Prince (sipping tea at the lounge) sends me out to the shopping area to change it back.
Smart Mauritians...Of course there is no exchange place beyond customs, so people actually have to spend and leave the money in the country...Bad for Prince, good for me - time to shop!
But to be honest, there is nothing I fancy.
Ralph Lauren shirts (fake or real is the big question)? No!
Lacoste tops? No!
Jewelry? No!
Dry fruit? NONO!
Returning empty, but the rupees, Prince sends me out again -"Just buy anything", he says.
Great!
Oh, what is that over there...DODO. Dodo...So cuteeeeeee (no really, he is rather ugly)
dodo |ˈdōdō|noun ( pl. -dos or -does)an extinct flightless bird with a stout body, stumpy wings, a large head, and a heavy hooked bill. It was found on Mauritius until the end of the 17th century. • Raphus cucullatus, family Raphidae. See alsosolitaire (sense 3).
.

He is the mascot of this island and I have seen his funny face everywhere.
He makes the perfect keepsake.
He is also a great gift for Puppy. (poor birdie)
So there I am, a few Rupees lighter, but one DODO richer. The label on my new furry toy tells me, that Dodo is Portuguese (fitting, isn't it), meaning STUPID. Thanks! I wonder if that means for buying him? It also tells me, that he was made without children-slavery. Now I am feeling better and far less stupid.
Dodo and me get on quiet well though. Ugly as ...xxxx!!!!..., I still like him. He means well and helps me shopping. We get a red cashmere jumper for myself, so I can give my favorite, re-stitched ebay dress a rest on the plane. I can now pull on the sweater and open the dress underneath, so I wont tear it some more. Perfect Dodo!
We get a pink polo-shirt for Prince, costing us a whole 10 bucks in Euros! Bargain.
And now what? Souvenirs for our imaginary friends in Lisbon?
Why not. Some mini Dodos and elephants and some flowery hair-clips for the next party! Voila... I spend it all, but my favorite buy is DODO.
Once on the plane I make it comfy and cozy for Dodo and me. Blanket, wine, movies and some nuts (no popcorn available), which Dodo loves. Especially Macadamias.
Prince keeps on shooting us bemused looks, but I guess he is just jealous.
Oh Dodo...
We watch Pinocchio, the ultimate Disney classic with such lovely music, that I can't stop myself from sobbing. Maybe it is the music, the wine and the end of our wonderful holiday and of course, my new love - DODO. Too much for one little, sensitive heart.

Please check it out for evidence of chocolate-sweet heartbreak:

I love EMIRATES.
Today we got upgraded to first class. That includes your personal bar, sadly only stuffed with alcohol free spirits, but it is a bar.
Dodo loves it, he does not drink strong stuff.
Me, I get the wine instead, but today first class or not, the service sucks. Excuse my words, but Emirates is usually topnotch. I had already noticed some change in crew behavior on the way in, but I had blamed it on Xmas stress. And maybe boyfriend and period problems. But today again?
I wonder if working for such amazing airline goes to the Crew's heads and makes them snobs?
Like wearing Gucci for breakfast? Washed down with a bit of Prada on the rocks?
Can't blame them, but it is no good for the airline.
Someone ought to tell them. Guess that someone will be me?

When Pinocchio becomes a human boy it's time for another Disney onion peeler, 'Aristocats'.
Disney got the key to the tear chambers, that's for sure.

And then, we sleep...

It is some time around midnight, Dubai time, when we land and just to let you know the fun of our trip -we have a 9h layover. 9 hours. Yes. However, we did manage to get a free bedroom (Emirates service) for this time and so we are shuffled through costumes, collecting our suitcases and into the shuttle bus, to the Meridien. A pretty disgusting place, this Meridien airport sleep. But better than nothing. Right now anything with a mattress and a cover would do.
Good night Prince!
BUT
He is not tired. He is thinking. He is tossing and turning.
I try to focus all my energy to calm his mind and let him rest and some time, much later, he finally relaxes and joins Dodo land.
DODO???
Oh no, he is not here!
I must have left him in the plane.
I am trying not to panic, because I need to sleep.
It is Emirates... NO?... they will have him waiting for me, I am sure, tomorrow morning...These are my last thoughts and I am gone too...
Daddaaannngggg...Wake up call.
With a jump I am out, into the yukee bathtub to shower myself into morning-land. The hot water takes forever to arrive, and I am meanwhile quivering away, staring in dismay at the foul, yellow stained ceiling. CHARMING. I do not want to imagine what and who has passed through here.
Let's change thoughts, Anna!
I focus on Dodo instead, hoping he is well and not too lonely in some lost&found cupboard. If the lost&found looks like our hotel, he must be devastated.
Prince is softly snoring, when I gently kiss him good morning. Up, up...We got to go!!!
30 minutes later we are in the shuttle bus once again, but this time with a bunch of cool Aussies. They are such easygoing species, from there, down under. I love Australians and their country.
This guys have been on a 'round half the world ticket', shopping in new York, skiing in Austria and partying in Dubai. They save all year to do this kind of trip on Christmas time, very cool.

Checking in, there is no information about Dodo - at the lounge the lady advises me.
We make our way through the spectacular Dubai airport, a fusion of modern and old, a soup of nations and religions, absolutely fascinating. And I must admit to one soft(dirty) spot of mine: Dishdashah.
The traditional garment of the Arab men.
This white floating robe, it just lets my fantasies drift...
I know, I am bad. But we all have a weakness. I have 2 and the other one is called KILT!

Back at the city-size Emirates lounge I go and inquire about Dodo. The nice gentlemen tells me to return in half an hour, while he will look for my lost friend.
Ahhhh...Relieve!
The breakfast-a la carte restaurant is massively impressive, as everything else in Dubai. There is just  any and everything one could want for a morning pick-me-up. Freshly squeezed juices, fruit of all color and shape, egg white omelet for the Princes, sweets and savories and the scent of freshly baked breads. Yummmm.Yumm...
I wished I was more of a morning eater, I would dive straight into this Schlaraffenland. (Cockaigne)

Cockaigne

or Cockayne (pronounced/kɒˈkeɪn/) is a medieval mythical land of plenty, an imaginary place of extreme luxury and ease where physical comforts and pleasures are always immediately at hand and where the harshness of medieval peasant life does not exist. Specifically, in poems like The Land of Cockaigne, Cockaigne is a land of contraries, where all the restrictions of society are defied (abbots beaten by their monks), sexual liberty is open (nuns flipped over to show their bottoms), and food is plentiful (skies that rain cheeses). Writing about Cockaigne was a commonplace of Goliardverse. It represented both wish fulfillment and resentment at the strictures of asceticism and dearth.

Dubai seems some sort of modern Cockaigne. Only the sexual liberty part is still missing...
On our way out I am ready to collect my runaway birdie, but the guy shakes his head in apologies - No DODO found. I am crushed. Poor little Dodo. Someone has kidnapped him. Probably that snobbish stewardess, who didn't like us in the first place. Poor me... I just hope she will treat him in kind... There is a small part of me (the one that believes in fairies and it is actually big, but PSSSSST) hopes, that Dodo missed his island and flew straight back home. This thought makes me very happy and so we board the next plane. Another 6 something hours to Munich. 'Our cabin' is empty, but one elderly German couple. Perfect. This will be a peaceful flight.
See full size imageI watch some more Disney, but it is only half the fun without my feathery friend. Service is better this time and the crew has smiles to share. Reading up the latest National Geographic I come across a very interesting article about moonstones. That does remind me of Igor's shock frozen Meringue. Certainly looks alike. I think we just discovered a new business idea here. Seems, that a Russian (Russian moon???) moon rock sample fetched 1/2 Million at Sotheby's in 1993. WOW. I must contact Igor at once to figure out how much a Mauritian rock could bring in.
The Oberoi moon rock foundation, anyone?
Some time later we get into Munich, my favorite airport. It has such great calming energy and this quietness... The place can be swarming with thousands of people, still, there is an ommmmm... One does not feel stressed, lost or annoyed, which are some of the typical airport feelings. The materials used and probably the architectural design should be a case-study to all those gritty, noisy and confusing airports. I check at the info stand, if the small Christmas market across the old terminal is still on. And lucky day - YES it is, till today. Excited about the promise of a Bratwurst and Gluehwein lunch I turn towards Prince, who is making funny faces instead. Ohoh, not good. Looks like mission BRATWURST must be forwarded to another time.
I do respect his choice of NO, since:
1. He is tired
2. He is carrying his heavy business Tumi
3. He is on a strict DIET
Respect your husband. Respect his diet.
But... Can we compromise? Just a little bit? We can and so we are sitting, an hour later at KAEFER (ladybug) the infamous Bavarian company, selling fine foods and catering gourmet dishes since 1930.

Ver imagem em tamanho realI get my German dish (anything German please), my dose of home - knoedel (dumplings), red cabbage and duck. Mhhhh... For Prince I order a thin looking soup, healthy and light and stylishly served in an oversized preserve glass. The duck is very tasty, but my homemade one is better. The knoedel are pretty bad, I guess they are from a ready-mix plastic bag (IEHHHH) with some taste enhancing substances. Not for me!
Back in the lounge we learn, that our next plane to Frankfurt (yes, one more stop today) is delayed due to snowstorms. Snow... magical fluffy powder crystals. A gift from the heavens, to paint the stark, barren landscape with a blanket of sparkling white. I remember reading about one planet once, that has pink snow. Now imagine that. A world of pink... I think our men would go gaga, or they would be less Macho in the winter. Might be a great 'vacation' planet for those testosterone driven badies? No more jails, just pink fluff...***

Ok, so more time to spend. More time to wait. At least I have my books with me... Just an hour of delay and we are on the way to Frankfurt. I wonder if we will make it in time and if the plane will go to Lisbon, with such bad weather conditions. We make it just in time and the next flight takes off, with just a tiny delay and we are finally getting closer to home. A wave of sadness sweeps over me, thinking of my mom, who must be landing now in Berlin. I am sad, that she will not be home, when we arrive. Some times I am such a little girl and the hug of my mom can make the world all good again. At least I know she is there, just a call, a skype or video (only when she feels pretty) chat away. I sms her as soon we touch down. She is fine, momentary shoveling the car out of half a meter of snow. Fancy that!
Waiting for our luggage we have a bet - if or if not - it will arrive. After all, we had no more than 15 minutes in Frankfurt. Prince wins (Anna's famous foot massage), when I see my fat beauty arriving. Something is looking a bit iffy there and of course, what else to expect. My once elegant Samsonite black label-vintage suitcase has now no zippers ( just the dangling piece to pull them open and close) left. My lock is gone too and the case is half opened. GREAT. Why did I believe, that 2010 would get better? At least, this time, the most precious thing inside must be a seashell necklace. I can't be bothered to even check, ce la vie. If one thing learned well in 2009, it is that THINGS are just THINGS. They come and they go. Nothing belongs to us. Nothing stays with us and we should never get too attached to anything! My stylish travel companion...
Too stylish, perhaps, in our problem ridden times?...
Just as my favorite wise friend in St. Tropez once put it.
"Look at this art. My walls are full of art. Every day I admire it. I paid for it. But do you think it is mine? Do you think, because it hangs in my house, it is my belonging? I will be long gone and this art will be still here. It will be in someone else's home, for a while and on and on...It belongs to nobody and to everybody, just like everything else in the world..."
Oh my wise friend Belanopek, how I miss you...
Loosing track here... he can do that to me with...

So here we are, Lisbon at last. I don't want to start counting traveling hours since departure from Mauritius, but it must be something around 30h?!
That is a killer...I will make sure from now, that such monster trips are never done again in one go. Instead we should take a 2 day pleasure stop in Dubai. Or a night of beer and wurst in Munich. 2010, time for a change. And let's not forget, we are also not the youngest anymore. 30 hours are ok when you are in your 20's. But after that...
I spot our taxi-man from the far, wearing his favorite Chinese hat. He is a case. Faithful and funny and always there if needed, I can almost forgive, that he is a hunter.
H-O-M-E...
Finally. It is nice to be back. The Christmas tree is glittering proud and healthy, he must be very happy in his water-filled bucket. I turn on the fireplace, the smoking man and cuddle up with the furry babies. They are stinky, but I could not worry less right now. Mom and her lover left a long letter, describing in detail the disaster stricken time they had. No electricity for 2 days, no heating on Christmas eve, lost dogs, the car didn't start, dead rats everywhere, ants (yeaph) in the bed, no plumbing, the rainstorm that uprooted a tree...
MERRY XMAS
I feel bad, but it is also sounds very funny. And it is a great test for 'young' lovers. If they can go trough such a time of misadventures, the love must be strong. I will remember to tell my mom, just to take away from my own guilt... (since they only stayed here to do us a favor... watching the house and the dogs...)
Somewhere I remember, that we wanted to make xmas tonight and open gifts. But no...Too tired... Good night everyone, I need to sleeeeeeeeep!!!

YAWNNNNNNNNNNN

WELCOME 2010 without Cloud 9 Rhapsody...

Happy 2010 my Prince...
And can you believe it, the sun is out too!!!
Finally 2009 is gone...
Surprisingly we don't feel as bad as one would expect after a few bottles of champagne. Guess we have finally slowed down on that drinking habit, or maybe we are just older and can take more?
Today is certainly not the day to analyze such matters.
There is a massage planned, to rejuvenate our tired bodies (feet). I hope my experience today will be more pleasant...

We order breakfast in the room, soft boiled eggs (better to be called un-boiled), juice, fruit and tea.
No champagne, no omelet, HEALTHY 2010, that was our (HIS) resolution.

I check my email and see a message from Emirates. I can check in soon, for my flight tomorrow, it reads.
TOMORROW?
What does it mean tomorrow?
We have 2 more days, don't we?
I am calling at Prince, for conformation and he believes also, that we have till the 3rd.
"But, how can we arrive in Portugal, after such long trip on the 3. if we leave the 3.?", I ponder.
"Oh no... Emirates is right (well...) and our plane is tomorrow!", I hear him shout back, accompanied by the typical Prince-life sound - click click rolls the blackberry ball.
Our hearts are sinking.
TOMORROW?
We had no clue. And we had so looked forward to 2 more days on the beach.
Aren't we a bunch of dumbos?
Luckily Emirates sends a reminder.
Most likely the front-desk would have called in time, tomorrow, to ask when we vacate the room. In time maybe, but packing in 5 minutes would have been a funny sight. And us boarding in bathing suits and sarongs even funnier.

Ce la vie... Fun over. Time to return to life and reality.
Prince is even more deflated by the news, he loves it here. He relaxed soooo much and looks like the sunny boy I fell for, once again. I guess we needed this holiday. And I guess, 12 days are way too short after such horrendous year. But bad news, Prince has already business meetings arranged in 3 days time. So no way of postponing...Shame...Just when the weather started to clear up...
I get myself into my last cute summer-sexy outfit for some snapshots and with sunken faces we make our way into the gardens and to the massage parlors.

Once again, I am sorry to admit, that my foot massage brings me neither joy nor relaxation. Just some strange pain and a feeling of uneasiness. Let it be over soon, I hear myself pray over again.
For me a massage is much more, than just a rubbing of skin and muscle. A good massage therapist has a gift and can feel and heal. Can touch you and know, what must be fixed. Now, a gift like this does not come along often, but I believe it can also be studied. There are some great therapists, that are just well trained doctors, never-so less, good in their work. But to have THE GIFT of touch and heal is something beyond. And if you once had such touch, you know what I mean. There is no going back after.
So, no gift found at the Oberoi, but that is ok. I have my set of gifted hands back in Sintra. I will make sure to visit them, when back at home.
Prince agrees with me today, but he confirms, that yesterday was massage-heaven for him. So you see, it is all in the hands of your girl! (a luxurious spa does not mean all girls deliver a cloud 9 rhapsody)
We get back to our villa, the sky once again invaded by fat grey clouds and the phone rings. Yes Ganesh? Oh, I see...Because of the bad weather no chance of our planned romantic bonfire and BBQ on the beach. Of course, no problem...
2010, I though Saturn is gone? (the star-forecast read, that Saturn will linger a bit into the beginning of the New year... ohoh... LINGER?)
We don't mind much anyway. We are, by now, used to it.
We go for some final UV ray charge (covered with cream and my big hat) in the cloudy-sunny day and I nibble some sashimi in the sand. (Salmon sashimi only, tuna I gave up long ago, to save the declining species from extinction)
With an air, heavily filled with sweet melancholy we slowly drift into the end of the day and our stay.

While at the beach:
My nose is buried deep into Jonathan's book and I come across a baffling paragraph:

Jonathan is now at the younger age of 18 and he is somewhere in the deep forest, fasting and waiting and looking for the moment of divine revelation. Or better - looking for the truth, looking for the HIM inside.
In the stillness of the wild (as still this can be) he starts focusing on his prayers, on his meditation.

"With each moment of silence, the energy of the world grew stronger. I could hear distant frogs by the pond, crickets and the occasional night bird.... The sound of my breath was overwhelming... my heartbeat was like thunder... A surge of profound gratitude filled my body. How could I be so blessed to have such perfect moment on Earth?... I spoke my prayers of gratitude to her (moon)... And then something happened.
As I stared at the moon the world in my peripheral vision began to dissolve... I hadn't consumed any alcohol or unusual foods. And I hadn't taken any drugs of any kind, nor had I anytime prior...
I tried to relax and took a deep breath in and out. I returned my gaze to the moon and the Earth around me disappeared once again. My eyes were open and I watched as slowly the sky, too, began to dissolve. I started to loose awareness of my body. Stars faded into the night sky; eventually there was only an infinite field of dark and the sacred white light of god shining through the moon... I became the light for a moment, the taste of a formless spirit. It was vibration, life force and joy- only for one moment. Then, unexpectedly the moon also vanished. The sense of divine energy dissipated along with it. Wide awake, my eyes still wide open, there was absolutely nothing in the world to see... It was as if everything dissolved...absolutely everything...
What happened next, I can only describe in retrospect. I experienced a moment without time or space or content of any kind. There was no awe, no love, no unity and no presence...
There was only an awareness so clear that there was no awareness at all. It was void, emptiness, it was more than infinite and it was eternal and beyond any dimensional quality. ..What existed was nothing more than awareness reflecting awareness: the absolute insubstantial substance of al being. it's pure silence, pure stillness... It is a radical emptiness....
Nothing is me, nothing is mine..."

NOTHING!!!??? It is so similar to my shamanic journey that I am taken aback. Does it mean, I actually experienced a higher truth? The meaning of it all, the deeper knowledge that everything is nothing. We are nothing and part of a bigger nothing, yet part of something beyond this nothingness is part of us. Nothing...everything...

" The melting of the world around me into the nothingness wasn't an optical illusion, but a revelation of the true essence of all things as expressions of the ONE SPIRIT beyond concept.... In the experience of NOTHING, I felt as I had realized EVERYTHING..."

Time to say good by.
Snufffffffff
It is officially our last night.
Our last dinner.
Booked at the most romantic sea-view table, we savor a perfect Saint Emilion (at last! Prince usually does not want a wine, that has traveled too far) and naturally - I must enjoy one more time the Scallops and to splash it a little, we opt for lobster as our main course.  And, of course, followed, by my absolute favorite 'moon-stone' dessert.
Half way through the dinner we must regrettably move tables, since our neighbors - a family of 10, has also brought their newest member.
Cute, adorable, sooo kutschikutschiiiiii, maybe 4 months old, he or she is definitely not happy about the food. The disagreeing sounds are confirming an absolute dislike and since we don't agree with the little one, we better move.
It was nice, when the hotel was empty!

Slurping some Muscatel in the sand, we say good by to our last Mauritian night.

Igor appears and we thank him for the divine menu last night. His face lights up with our appreciation, a lovely thing to watch, the eruption of a smile...

So this was our very first day of 2010,
And our very last night at the lovely Oberoi Mauritius

2010... Please, please...bring happiness, health and peace and calm...
And Oberoi - stay as you are and we shall be back!

AND

Thank you dear Universe,
Because I have found the most beautiful gift of all, LOVE
I love you Prince,
